Re: the SAT's and standardized exams in general--
Yes, I hate them. I hated them when I had to take them. Years later... I hate them still. And I actually did well (by the grace of God)!! National Merit and all that. Hooray. That doesn't change the fact that I still believe it was a massive waste of time and energy. The only thing that such exams test is... yep, your ability to take a test.

That said, I'm afraid that they are here to stay... at least for the foreseeable future. Sorry, guys. The fact is that admissions committees do use them, even if they also acknowledge the truth of the above. This will remain true for graduate level exams as well (LSAT, MCAT, GRE, etc.).... So, the best thing you can do for the time being is to study hard and do your best. :(

Re: video games.
Sometimes, I feel a bit "guilty" when I play games due to their very violent content. I rationalize that I'm still technically fighting evil... and that there were many heroic military conquerers in the Bible as well. But sometimes, I catch myself enjoying it a bit too much. I guess what I'm trying to say is that everyone of you, while playing, should try to be mindful about whether you are playing the game... or if the game is playing YOU, and possibly changing the kind of person you are (and not for the better).

Also, read the Bible when you're at home and pray for your family, friends, etc. rather than just getting sucked into the video-game reality. I know that sometimes the game's virtual reality is more exciting and fun... but don't forget that it's still just a game. There are real people in real life who need you to pray for them.

Re: Korean parents
This deserves a longer post... which I don't have time for at the moment. I will say though, that your parents love you all very much. The reason why they urge/command you to study is because they sincerely believe 100% that it is good for you to do well in school. And guess what? It IS! :) Of course, like we talked about, there are more important things in life... and being a good student isn't the same as being a good Christian -- which is the only thing that really does matter ultimately. But think of it this way... Better grades = more opportunities. More opportunities = more opportunities to be used for God (and His kingdom and righteousness).

More on that later. I have to get back to work. Ugh.... so many exams to grade.... blech....

something that adults like JDS and students agree

- the SAT's are a waste of time for students.
the stupid Collegeboard just want money and that's just how they're luring parents to waste a pocketful of money on those worthless tests. we shouldn't even consider taking them, since more and more colleges aren't bothering to look at them.

- video games are amazing. xD
c'mon, what would our lives be without any fun? I appreciate what video games did for students who get stressed out from probably everywhere.

- Korean parents only care about school and academics.
all Korean kids like us can feel the pressure that we get from our parents. most of the time we can't even tell them to stop yelling at us for getting B's cus we know what will happen if we do. one of the main questions that Korean parents will ask you are, "So what college/school do you go to?" and when you tell them whatever college or school you're in, I guarantee you that unless it's an IVY LEAGUE, they won't care where you went. you'd be just standing there like a dumb one in their eyes (in other words, failure). they are the ones who would force you to take hardcore classes so that you'll be the "best" in academics, thinking that will make you good money. but guess what; that's not really the case, and they probably know that too. they're obviously torturing kids who need some fun and comfort in their lives. okay, you get my point.
